The Interior Design Short Course focuses on the fundamentals of designing for residential interiors, covering subjects such as the design process, colour, using fabrics and trimmings, lighting, space planning to scale, soft furnishings, developing a concept, sourcing, presentation boards and managing a residential project. The course culminates in producing a professional quality concept board and sample board for a room in your own home or for a “West Dean client”.

The College will supply the materials and equipment you will require for the course. Magazines, samples including fabric, trimmings, paint cards, wallpaper, trimmings and flooring will also be available for discussion.
Pencil case
Please wear appropriate clothing/aprons for the workshop or studio, this includes covered footwear (no sandals or open toes). Possible equipment restrictions in tutor absence.
Daily Timetable
Course teaching 10am–2.30pm
Students arrive between 9.30am-10am (coffee optional)
Morning teaching 10am-12.30pm
Lunch break 12.30pm (lunch is not included)
Teaching finishes 2.30pm
Short courses are open to anyone aged 18 and over. The course fee covers tuition and materials where stated. You will need to bring all other items listed under the ‘Materials to bring’ section.
Coffee and tea are included in the course fee, but you will need to bring lunch with you to eat in the refreshments room. There are also plenty of other local venues to purchase food.

Please tell us about your needs in confidence by emailing: [email protected] This venue has steps to the front reception, with limited access via a side gate to the ground floor. There is a small lift to higher floors or stairs.
Short course students are required to sign a safety compliance form as part of West Dean Health and Safety regulations.
