About this course

Introduction to CAD Vectorworks.

This three day course will introduce students to the core skills of the Vectorworks program. Strong emphasis is placed on best practices and approaches are derived from experience and working solutions. Step-by-step progress is made under the close supervision of our tutors.

Course Description

This course is open to applicants with an understanding of technical drawing skills and confident computer skills. All computer aided design courses are taught on PC computers.

Day 1

Role of CAD / introduction to the Vectorworks software

Setting up Workspace & Basic options

Basic skills – drawing & selecting objects

Editing skills – combining shapes, mirroring, rotating & grouping objects

Working to scale, setting preferences & saving templates

Drawing & moving objects accurately.

Day 2

Further editing tools – fillet & offset

Introduction to basic attributes & editing groups

Duplicate arrays – linear, rectangular & circular

Room plan graphics – walls, windows & doors

Drawing up a room plan

Further attributes including hatch, gradient & image fills.

Day 3

Drawing elevations – methods & techniques

Creating image fills for elevations

Creating symbols & introduction to Resource Browser

Organising the drawing using Design Layers

Labelling the drawings & simple title block text

Converting drawings into PDFs.

Timetable

Arrival Day - this is the first date listed above

Courses start early evening. Residential students to arrive from 4pm, non-residential students to arrive by 6.45pm.

6.45pm: Welcome, followed by dinner (included).

8 - 9pm: First teaching session, attendance is essential.

Daily timetable

Classes 9.15 - 5pm, lunch is included.

From 6.30pm: Dinner (included for residential students).

Evening working - students may have access to workshops until 9pm, but only with their tutor's permission and provided any health and safety guidelines are observed.

Last day

Classes 9.15am - 3pm, lunch is included.

Residential students are to vacate their rooms by 10am please.

  • All materials for this course are included in the course fee including use of a PC laptop for each student.

Additional information

Breakfast refreshments and a delicious light lunch will be provided on the first day of the course. While a vegetarian option is made available, we are unable to cater to specific food intolerances or food allergies.

Gianfrancesco De Falco

Gianfrancesco has almost 30 years of experience in Interior Architecture and Design working on international residential projects and 17 years experience of teaching Interior Design.

Federica Capitani

Italian designer Federica Capitani studied Industrial Design at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Genova.
