About this course

In this talk Marian and Arit will show examples of their work and insights that convey beauty whilst focusing on wildlife. Marian will talk about her projects and ways to connect more deeply with the land on all levels, and Arit will share the impact of communicating about sustainable landscapes and gardens through the media. Whether an allotment, formal garden, balcony, or windowsill owner or steward of a hundred acre estate, the talk will discuss how we can work in sympathy with the natural world, and also how we can increase biodiversity and reduce our environmental impact.

Course Description

Arit and Marian met over five years ago, and at industry awards and presentations wondered why the emphasis of award-winning gardens and landscapes were often based on the size and money spent with no mention of value to the natural environment. They soon galvanised ideas and created the Sustainable Landscape Foundation to build a movement where landscape professionals and the public could put sustainability at the forefront of design and land management. Marian draws on her twenty years’ experience of being a landscape architect and working on projects that are not only good for the client, but work to heal the land. Arit, who was previously a holistic therapist, takes a view on how there must be a dynamic shift in the relationship that people have with place and nature to put the environment centre stage in a changing world.
