Discover the techniques and potential of glass engraving and explore both hand and drill based techniques to develop a personal working approach. Suitable for complete beginners and, for those who may have let their practice lapse, this is a perfect opportunity to rebuild your confidence with this medium.
The aim is to capture the imagination of beginners, encouraging you to gain and develop skills, as well as to deepen the experience of those members of the group who are re-visiting the medium, in order to awaken a passion for this exciting art form.
By the end of the course, you will be able to apply a design to the glass and choose which of the two techniques you prefer. You will also possess a basic understanding of the different groups of tools and types of glass. Those of you who attend in order to develop your skills will have ample opportunity to address your own questions and challenges.
The course is taught through individual tuition, tutor led demonstration, presentation and discussions. You will be encouraged to undertake personal projects – this approach ensures that everybody is able to progress at their own pace.

Courses start early evening. Residential students to arrive from 4pm, non-residential students to arrive by 6.45pm.
6.45pm: Welcome, followed by dinner (included).
8 - 9pm: First teaching session, attendance is essential.
Daily timetable
Classes 9.15 - 5pm, lunch is included.
From 6.30pm: Dinner (included for residential students).
Evening working - students may have access to workshops until 9pm, but only with their tutor's permission and provided any health and safety guidelines are observed.
Last day
Classes 9.15am - 3pm, lunch is included.
Residential students are to vacate their rooms by 10am please.

Tracey Sheppard studied Fine Art and English Literature for a London University BA Hons. She is a Fellow of the Guild of Glass Engravers, and a Brother of the Art Workers Guild. Exhibiting widely, she has work in private collections and public buildings. She recently engraved south doors for Portsmouth Cathedral.
