About this course

Enjoy learning about the process of mosaic making, as you make two small decorative pieces during the day.

Course Description

You will be taught the basics of cutting and fixing tiles to boards to create small decorative pieces, and you will make two small mosaics during the day.

The first will be a coaster to learn about materials, cutting, arranging, fixing, grouting, colour and design. The second will be a 15 or 17cm square decorative piece. You may wish to source and incorporate elements from old plates and cups into your design.

Grouting will be demonstrated and grout supplied for you to take home. The tutor will discuss how to do this, as grout cannot be applied the same day, because the tiles might not be fixed.

Course Materials

Included

Basic materials to make two pieces will be provided: boards, adhesive, ceramic tiles and grout.

What students need to bring

  • Please bring an apron and wear covered footwear (no open toes).
  • If you wish, you can bring fragments of broken china plates or whole items to cut up (approx. 4mm thick).
  • You will also need a lidded container to take your grout home.
  • Please consider how you will carry home your pieces, and bring a small box or similar.
