About this course

From diamonds and squares to triangles and hexagons, experiment with different crochet shapes, yarns and ways to design freestyle, colourful shapes. If you can do the basic stitches, this is a great way to improve your crochet skills.

Course Description

From diamonds and squares to triangles and hexagons, you will be experimenting with different ways of putting crochet shapes together. If you can do the basic stitches, this is a great way to expand your crochet vocabulary and try out some new things. Learn new stitches, so that you will be crocheting with confidence and designing your patterns for modular shapes to make up into throws, cushions or bags.

This is a course for those who have learned the basics of crochet and want to move to the next level. There will be plenty of personal attention from the tutor to answer your specific questions. With plenty of inspiration from crochet artists and mathematicians, have some fun with colour, scale, shapes and joining techniques.

• Mess with scale, with hooks from 20mm to 0.2mm.

• Use unusual yarns and fibres.

• Experiment with freestyle hyperbolic crochet.

• Design colourful shapes for your project.

Timetable

Arrival Day - this is the first date listed above

Courses start early evening. Residential students to arrive from 4pm, non-residential students to arrive by 6.45pm.

6.45pm: Welcome, followed by dinner (included).

8 - 9pm: First teaching session, attendance is essential.

Daily timetable

Classes 9.15 - 5pm, lunch is included.

From 6.30pm: Dinner (included for residential students).

Evening working - students may have access to workshops until 9pm, but only with their tutor's permission and provided any health and safety guidelines are observed.

Last day

Classes 9.15am - 3pm, lunch is included.

Residential students are to vacate their rooms by 10am please.

Additional information

Please wear appropriate clothing/aprons for the workshop or studio, this includes stout covered footwear (no sandals or open toes).

Katy Bevan

Katy Bevan is a curator, writer and educator specialising in knitting and crochet. She has worked in craft book and magazine publishing for 20 years and writes about the history and art of knitting and textiles for magazines such as Selvedge, The Knitter and Rowan, writes a blog at thecrafter.me and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Trustee of the Heritage Crafts Association. She believes in the benefits of craft for health and wellbeing and is usually to be found knitting.
