Course Description

This course is intended for intermediate and advanced players of treble, tenor or bass viols, who are confident in sight reading and playing one-to-a-part. 17th century English music will form the main area of study.

The focus is on working towards playing as a consort, improving the quality and variety of sound on the viol and understanding more about how to play the music in a stylistically appropriate way.

You will be accepted in order of application, though this is subject to level of experience and a suitable balance of players. Places are limited, so any deposit paid will be refunded if we are not able to accept your application after the tutor’s assessment of these aspects – please see below.
