Woodrow Phoenix
Woodrow Phoenix, veteran British comics creator behind Rumble Strip
and dozens of other much-loved stories, works with publishers in
France, Japan, Brazil and the UK, and with media companies
including Walt Disney, Cartoon Network and BBC Worldwide. He is a
visiting lecturer at the University of Middlesex.
Describe your approach to teaching:
I like to demonstrate the mechanics of comic strips, the process of
shaping a narrative, designing a container to hold the content of a
story, showing how information is shaped and conditioned by the
forms it is presented in.
What inspires your own work?
What I love about making comics is problem solving; turning an idea
into a narrative sequence. The more abstract the idea, the harder
that sequence has to work.
