Garden Designer
What was your background before KLC?
I spent 8 years teaching 7-11 year olds in London, Singapore and Tokyo. My husband and I then had two children and I spent the next 10 years bringing them up whilst renovating two properties in Surrey.
Why did you decide to study Garden Design?
I really enjoyed designing the interiors, furniture and gardens for the properties that we renovated and I love gardening. Not wanting to return to the all-consuming career of teaching, I decided to try my hand at something new.
What did you think of the course?
I found it exciting, fun, challenging and exhausting! I am very glad that I did it as it has pushed me out of my comfort zone and I have learnt a huge amount.
What are your design interests/strengths?
I think my main strength is in coming up with designs that properly meet the clients’ brief and that will work well in their gardens. I am able to draw on my own practical experience of gardening and design to produce well- thought out layouts and planting plans. I like to come up with a concept that carries through the whole design and gives integrity to it.
Which are your favourite gardens?
Great Dixter, Wisley, the Beth Chatto gardens and of course my own.
Who is your favourite designer?
Acres Wild, Debbie Roberts and Ian Smith
