Diploma HE in Applied Interior Design 2018 - 2019

Christi Anderson

Interior Designer

What were you doing before studying and why did you decide to study here?
I spent 15 years in Finance at large, global organisations which gave me a chance to travel the world and experience managing complex projects in a fast-paced environment.  I chose KLC School of Design based on its international reputation and access to Chelsea Harbour Design Centre.

How do you think studying at KLC School of Design prepared you for what you do now?
The course had a practical curriculum focused on a strong understanding of design principles, technical skills, and completing projects throughout the course. The program’s focus on client-centred projects prepared me to balance aesthetics with usability.  I thoroughly enjoyed my classmates and a number of us still stay in touch and support each other.

Can you identify some of the highlights and challenges of your time with us?
Highlights included collaborating with talented peers and tutors on innovative projects. A huge challenge was mastering technical software, which ultimately became a vital skill. The intensive, deadline-driven environment also taught me resilience and adaptability.

How has your career evolved since graduating?
I spent a crucial year working at a high-end design studio in London.  I founded Wynd Design in 2020, and the business has grown to serve clients across the North East and London.

What projects are you currently working on?
We are currently working on a large family home in North Yorkshire - a complete refurbishment with a large extension.  We are also helping a Wynyard family turn their new build into a cosy family home that reflects their personality, and updating several family homes in Wynyard.  We completed a gorgeous open plan kitchen in Wynyard recently, and it has completely transformed how the client lives in their home.

What do you consider your biggest achievement to date?
My biggest achievement is building Wynd Design into a trusted name for thoughtful, high-quality designs that reflect clients’ personalities. Seeing the joy my work brings to families is incredibly rewarding. Our work was recently featured in a magazine, and I even made the front cover.

Do you have any tips for recent graduates?
Embrace every opportunity to collaborate and learn, even outside your comfort zone. Build strong relationships with suppliers and tradespeople, as they are key to executing your vision. Most importantly, listen to your clients—they are your best guide for creating meaningful designs.
