About this course

This course introduces Tetra Pak printing as an accessible intaglio method using recycled packaging. You will engrave plates, print on fabric, explore layering techniques and use an etching press to create unique textile prints over two days.

Course Description

Tetra Pak printing offers a simple yet versatile introduction to the intaglio printing process. By repurposing recycled food packaging, you can create unique intaglio printing plates with an immediate printable surface, unlike other collagraph materials. Whether you choose to work with the existing structure of flattened packaging or use it as a base for your own motif is entirely up to you.

In this course, you will print on fabric instead of paper, producing original fabric prints that can be incorporated into textile projects or used as standalone pieces. You will learn how to engrave your plates by cutting, scoring and peeling the surface to create striking lines, marks and tonal areas.

Over the two days, you will explore repeat and multi-plate printing, layering colours and textures, and integrating a fabric version of Chine collé using fabric overlays. A small etching press will be used throughout the course.
