About this course

Enjoy learning figurative drawing through a series of different exercises, focusing on tone and shape.

Course Description

This course will give you the confidence to draw the figure from a life model. The tutor will teach you different ways to observe the human form and how to translate the figurative shape into two-dimensions on paper.

Through a series of exercises focusing on tone and shape, you will learn the basics of drawing using simple materials, such as pencil, graphite, chalk, rubber and charcoal. The tutor will also show you how to simply tackle foreshortening.

You will have the opportunity to explore ways of drawing, using different techniques which will help you to portray the essence of the human body with confidence, accuracy and joy. By the end of the day, you will have completed several drawings using different techniques.

  • The course fee includes the cost of providing a life model and all drawing materials, including paper, a 4B pencil, a graphite stick, chalk, an eraser and a craft knife.

Additional information

Please wear appropriate clothing/aprons for the workshop or studio. This includes stout covered footwear (no open-toes or sandals).

Šárka is a Czech born, artist and designer who's multimedia practice explores the relationship in between people, places and architecture in relation to the ever-changing time and space that we occupy.

Constantly seeking new ways of making and showing her work, she is a strong advocate of fundamental prominence of 'looking and seeing', which could be learned and much enhanced through the art of observational drawing.
