About this course

A workshop exploring natural leaf material with hand stitch. Gathering a variety of leaves from the West Dean gardens, we will explore these as surfaces for hand stitch.

Course Description

A workshop exploring natural leaf material with hand stitch.

Our first evening will include an introductory talk with samples and examples.

Gathering a variety of leaves from the West Dean gardens during the workshop, we will explore these as surfaces for hand stitch and look at different approaches for stitching, joining and preparing our leaves. Learning by handling and engaging with materials, we will gain an understanding of qualities in leaves of different plant variety and state.

A combination of attention to detail and an experimental approach will lead us through a process of learning some creative possibilities with leaves and enable students to gain confidence in working with unconventional materials.
