FDAD Alumni: Research and Development Course with Caroline Wendling

Ref: SLW31697

Location: West Dean

About this course

These three days are for students who have completed the FDAD programme to support momentum in their practice, providing time, space and resources to begin a new project, or develop an existing one, supported by both tutor and peers.

Course Description

Caroline Wendling is a successful artist and senior tutor, experienced in responding to students’ needs across different disciplines and in supporting the development of individual practice.

During the first evening each artist will share their work and intention for the study period with the group (up to four minutes each). This can include up to three images or objects, sketchbook pages, an ‘in-progress’ piece, another artist’s work or found object.

Day One
Caroline will offer a short series of drawing exercises to get started using what you brought with you as a stimulus. This day is for independent practice supported by tutorials and technique demonstrations as required.

Day two
Facilitated and supportive group critiques at the start of the day followed by independent practice. One-to-one tutorials.

Day three
Time will be given for more in depth development and the making of works. Towards the end of the day students will gather to show and discuss their works and working methods during the course. Has the intention been achieved?  Have your ideas changed? Was the making successful? What have you learned?  What would you change if anything? What could be done next?

What you will gain:
Work at your own pace, on your own ideas, with expert support.
Research and development skills.
New directions or development of existing work.
Inspiration through exchange of ideas working alongside peers.
Time and space to work in a studio away from the distractions of daily life.

This course takes place in the Carrington Studio, near the full-time fine art studios.
