About this course

This course is aimed at students who already have experience in lino. This includes understanding reduction lino cut and multi plate. You will push and develop the boundaries of these fundamentals through colour and monochrome techniques.

Course Description

Working closely with the tutor, you will look at how to push lino printmaking into the realms of dynamic, unique, expressive impressions. You will look at how to integrate complex layering into prints and how this can be used to communicate emotions and stories. Using viscosity work, monoprint, stencils and hand printing effects, your tutor will build up your confidence to take lino further, beyond the basic relief print.

You will cover a lot of ground, looking at colour work and how printing colour can be modified and used to alter the outcome. You will explore alternative cutting approaches to integrate non-traditional tools into your mark-making. You will take a flexible approach to the generation of editions, focusing mainly on learning exploration and unique prints. You will explore both press and hand-printing.

This course is the perfect lead on from the ‘Lino printmaking for beginners’ course (also run by Mary). The course will involve both group and individual projects, with many tutor-led demonstrations throughout to share complex knowledge. One-to-one guidance will be provided to develop your individual language.

By the end of the course, you will have gained in experience and will leave with enthusiasm to push the boundaries of expressive lino cut.
