John Hill

John is a teacher, picture framer and framing consultant. He initially qualified as a mechanical engineer. His initiation into picture framing was through an interest in paintings. He moved to Bermuda where Frameworks Gallery was opened, specialising in quality framing and art conservation. The gallery still remains in family ownership.

On returning to the UK and keeping a keen business interest in the profession, he had the opportunity to teach this creative subject, with an emphasis on the preservation of art. He is currently a tutor at East Surrey College and here at West Dean College.

Approach

I ensure that the correct framing methods and techniques are used to both enhance and protect all types of artwork to conservation standards.

The combination of artistic, creative and mechanical skills.
