John Page

John specialises in rushwork and holds a Diploma from the City & Guilds in Creative Basketry. He runs the two-year basketry course at the City Lit, London. He is a Yeoman of the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers and has contributed a chapter in Rush, published by the Basketmakers’ Association.

Describe your approach to teaching

My primary concern is to teach a sound basis of techniques to enable students to make well-made baskets. Once they are in place I am more than happy to encourage experimental work.

What inspires your own work?

I am interested in traditional uses of rush and in experimenting, trying to find new ones.
