Join us for a full day of creative exploration in drypoint printmaking and Chine collé two versatile and expressive printmaking techniques that can produce richly detailed and atmospheric results. This workshop is designed for beginners, as well as those with some printmaking experience who want to expand their skills.
In the morning, you will be introduced to the drypoint process, where images are created by drawing directly onto a plate using sharp tools to scratch into the surface. Unlike etching, drypoint requires no acid, making it a direct and tactile method. You will learn how to prepare your plate, develop your linework and print using an etching press. You will learn how different tools and mark-making techniques affect the quality and texture of the printed line.
After lunch, the focus will be on Chine collé a method of introducing fine papers and subtle colour during the printing process. You will learn how to use adhesives and delicate collage papers to add layered textures and tones to your prints, enhancing the visual depth and complexity of your image. You will also experiment with a variety of inking techniques to explore different moods and effects.
By the end of the day, you will have produced a small edition of prints, gained a clear understanding of the drypoint process and developed confidence in experimenting with colour, texture and collage. You will leave with the skills to continue exploring these methods in your own creative practice.
