About this course

Discover the basic principles of paper folding and learn all the necessary skills and techniques required to create a range of three-dimensional geometric forms.

Course Description

This structured, two-day course is perfect for designers, artists and anyone interested in learning how to transform a flat sheet of paper into a variety of three-dimensional forms.

You will be introduced to the fundamental principles of paper folding and expertly guided through processes required to create a range of exciting structures, including spiral folds, flat pleats and herringbone tessellations. You will also create several ‘functional’ products, such as vase covers and hanging decorations, while exploring a variety of inspiring techniques. There will be plenty of opportunity to experiment and develop your own variations.

In addition, we will explore the history of paper folding and the work of contemporary paper folding artists. We will discuss how the craft is applied in modern fashion, architecture and design. By the end of the course, you will have the skills and confidence to fold independently, experiment and design your own pieces. Whether you are looking to incorporate paper folding into your own practice or discipline, or simply enjoy the creative process, this course will leave you inspired.

Suitable for beginners, as well as those with some experience.
