About this course

In this two-day workshop, you will explore the wide variety of patterns that can be created using simple running stitch.

Course Description

Day 1 We will cover the basics of shibori stitching and prepare a series of accurately stitched pleated works that can be used to create additional patterns with further stitching. We will also work on the Mokume woodgrain pattern, achieved through rows of closely spaced running stitch. Day 2 Using the fabrics we’ve prepared, we will create additional patterns. Specifically, you will work on the following shibori sample pieces: Nui variations – Learning to pull threads at different tensions to create pattern variations Whip stitch – Over-stitching down both sides of pleated fabric Katano – Creating repeated patterns through pleated fabric You will also learn how to pull up and tie off your threads tightly to form a solid resist. The tutor will explain how to dye your fabrics at home using Dylon and indigo dye to bring your patterns to life.
