Course Description

FF&E Mastery: From Specs to Sign-Off. Level up your design skills with real-world FF&E tools.

This focused, practical course, which runs across three Tuesdays, is ideal for junior designers or those transitioning into FF&E-focused roles, who want to deepen their understanding of FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment). It is interactive and hands-on, designed to give you practical skills you can apply immediately.

The course is led by Wendy Cooper, who draws on over 20 years of global industry experience to equip you with essential tools, templates and insider knowledge.

You’ll explore the full lifecycle of FF&E design, from initial concept and budgeting to specification, client presentations and professional documentation.

Modules include:

  • FF&E Fundamentals Understand the role and scope of FF&E in professional design practice. Learn how it impacts real-world projects and gain tools and templates for smart specification and procurement.
  • Budgeting & Indexing Learn how to balance creativity with cost through practical strategies that support design decisions across your project.
  • Smart Specification Gain confidence sourcing and specifying products, understanding materials, compliance, lead times, costs and when to go bespoke.
  • Presenting & Documenting Communicate your design intent with clarity. Learn how strong, professional documentation supports a smooth procurement process.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Define the FF&E process and its key components
  • Specify materials and products with awareness of quality, compliance and cost
  • Create and manage FF&E budgets
  • Produce professional FF&E documents that support procurement and delivery

With a friendly, pragmatic teaching style, Wendy shares her extensive knowledge to help students gain practical skills and industry confidence—ready to take their design work to the next level.

Course Materials

Included

On this course the College will supply some of the materials, including:

  • PDF printouts
  • Scale rulers
  • Nlank sheets of paper

You will also have access to the college Wi-Fi.

What students need to bring

  • Laptop / Tablet – to produce documents and to browse the internet as part of the course
  • You will also need to bring along a pen or pencil and you may also wish to bring a notebook to make notes.
  • Software: DWG software if possible, however, pdf printout and scale ruler will also be available, but please bring along your own pencil / pen if needed
  • Excel / Numbers – for producing schedules
  • Powerpoint / InDesign / Canva, etc. – for presentations

Timetable

Student registration: 9.30am - 10am
Course teaching: 10am - 2.30pm
Morning teaching: 10am - 12.30pm
Lunch break: 12.30pm (lunch is not included)
Teaching finishes: 2.30pm

General Information

Short courses are open to anyone aged 18 and over. The course fee covers tuition and materials where stated. You will need to bring all other items listed under the ‘Materials to bring’ section.

Refreshments

Coffee and tea are included in the course fee, but you will need to bring lunch with you to eat in the refreshments room. There are also plenty of other local venues to purchase food.

There is a small lift to higher floors or stairs.

Safety

Short course students are required to sign a safety compliance form as part of West Dean Health and Safety regulations.
