About this course

The tutor will illustrate the importance of winter interest and structure in the garden, demonstrating how careful maintenance helps the development of your garden. This day includes a practical workshop in weaving a natural plant support.

Course Description

The day will begin with a lecture looking specifically at winter structure, discussing how to create movement and interest when much of the garden is dormant.

Following a coffee break, the tutor will guide you through the importance of winter maintenance, in preparation for the growing season ahead, detailing various seasonal tasks before taking a walk around the gardens to further illustrate aspects of winter maintenance.

After lunch, the day will continue outside, with a demonstration and practical session where you will learn how to create interesting growing structures and weave plant supports.

Please wear appropriate clothing/aprons for the workshop or studio, this includes stout covered footwear (no sandals or open toes).

Benjamin Pope

Ben Pope has been in the horticulture industry for the last 19 years, studying and training at the Merrist Wood and RHS Wisley, where he was awarded Best Practical and Best Overall Student. His work experience ranges from nursery practices and propagation in Australia through to design and horticultural research in London for the practice of Arabella Lennox-Boyd.
