This course focuses on the fundamentals of designing for residential interiors, covering topics such as the design process, colour, using fabrics and trimmings, lighting, space planning to scale, soft furnishings, developing a concept, putting together a design scheme, sourcing and presentation boards. The course culminates in producing a professional quality concept board and a sample board for a room in your own home or for a West Dean client.

The College will supply all of the materials and equipment you will require for the course.
Magazines and samples, including fabric, trimmings, paint cards, wallpaper, trimmings and flooring will also be available for discussion.
What students need to bring
- Please bring your laptop or tablet as course notes may be shared digitally throughout the week.
Additional information
Please wear appropriate clothing/aprons for the workshop or studio, this includes stout covered footwear (no sandals or open toes).
Arrival day
Residential students can arrive from 4pm, non-residential students to arrive by 6.45pm for registration
Student welcome, followed by dinner: 6.45pm (dinner included)
Teaching session: 8pm - 9pm (attendance is essential)
Daily timetable
Course teaching 9.15am - 5pm (lunch included)
Dinner: from 6.30pm (included for residential students)
Evening working: students may have access to workshops until 9pm, but only with permission from the tutor and provided any health and safety guidelines are observed
Departure day
Course teaching: 9.15am - 3pm (lunch included)
Residential students will need to check out of rooms by 10am.
