About this course

An abstract painting course in acrylics to take you to the next level, for those who have some existing experience of abstract painting.

Course Description

This course is aimed at painters who have some existing history with their practice and wish to engage in discussions about contemporary abstract painting in a group environment.

We will look at videos and images of contemporary artists, as well as your own work. Some topics that may be discussed are colour, space, narrative, line, concept, process, self-motivation and self-evaluation. Focus will be on implementing ideas that are discussed into your own practice, if applicable. Painting will be the main activity during the course.

You will need to bring your own work on canvas and paper, and you will have the opportunity to develop work that is currently unresolved and/or create new work alongside it.

There will be regular group evaluations, as well as one-to-one mentoring throughout the course. Please come along with some ideas about your work, which can be discussed at a group level.

This course is not suitable for beginners. It would be useful if you have already done a course with the tutor, although this is not a pre-requisite to attend. It is an abstract painting course, so please don’t bring figurative work. If you work in oils, please be prepared to work in acrylics for the duration of the course.
