Have you ever wanted to make something truly personal for Valentine’s Day, but weren’t sure whether you’d have the skills to create it yourself? No experience is needed at all, so this is the perfect introduction for complete beginners.
This workshop will introduce you to the basic tools and processes and teach you how to make a sterling silver ring, as a gift for someone special, as matching rings made together, or as a treat just for yourself. You will begin by practising stamping on copper before moving on to silver, with the option of stamping a name, date or little message inside the band. The session will then take you through the basic skills of sawing, filing and soldering, and give you the chance to play with pattern and texture to make your design your own. Each step is guided with clear demonstrations, and there’s plenty of one-to-one help along the way.
You will complete a sterling silver ring by the end of the session, a thoughtful Valentine’s gift or something special to keep for yourself.
Materials and tools will be supplied for the course, including a basic tool kit, a basic pack and silver for the ring. (The course fee includes the price of providing the silver for the specific project set by the tutor.)
Please wear appropriate clothing/aprons for the workshop or studio. This includes stout covered footwear (no open toes or sandals).
