About this course

Join this hand-on course to explore decorative paper techniques from Europe and Japan. Develop practical skills, experiment with a range of inks, paints and techniques, and leave with a portfolio of unique decorative papers to use in collage, bookbinding and paper crafts.

Course Description

Discover and experiment with a range of techniques, from meditative suminagashi (Japanese marbling), vibrant orizomegami (Paper folding and dyeing, similar to shibori), European techniques such as paste papers and polished papers and sculptural momigami, where paper takes on a fabric-like quality.Participants will learn the confident use of materials and papers to develop their own signature designs. The course will begin with a slide show talk about the possibilities. Your tutor, Tracey Bush has been fascinated with decorative papers throughout her career, and obtained a Stationers’ Company scholarship to research ‘Korean paper Culture’.

The course will be taught with a combination of demonstration, worksheets and personal attention. You will leave with a beautiful portfolio of diverse decorative papers, and the skills and inspiration to continue exploring at home.
