On this course, you will learn about this new technique, developed and researched by your tutor, called Lithino or lithography on lino. This is one of a handful of workshops taught by your tutor in the UK, exploring this exciting and innovative development in printmaking.
You will learn how to use traditional artists lino to generate lithographic marks on the surface and print the lino as a lithographic matrix, as well as a linocut one. The lithographic marks will enable you to produce a more drawn and painterly quality to the print, using crayons, pencils, dip pens, brushes and much more to generate a range of expressive marks. This is all drawn upon the surface of the lino before processing happens to stabilise the image and lino matrix. Throughout the whole process, the lino may also be treated as a classic linocut, introducing more graphic qualities into the work.
You will be shown how to process and print lithographically as well as relief. The lino is printed under an etching press and by hand to generate dynamic and unique prints.
You will predominately be working in monochrome to get a complete understanding of the technique, although colour can be introduced if you wish to.
Lithino is suited to small editions or best for unique prints, celebrating printmaking as a one-off event.
