Immerse yourself in two full days of jewellery making! This weekend course is designed for intermediate and advanced makers, giving you the time and space to tackle more ambitious projects of your own choosing or continue developing work you've already started or simply enjoy the luxury of uninterrupted bench time.
You'll have the opportunity to explore new techniques, discuss your design ideas one-to-one with your tutor, and receive guidance on how to bring them to life. Teaching combines group demonstrations with individual tuition where needed, allowing you to develop skills that are relevant to your own projects.
As this course is aimed at those with some previous jewellery-making experience, the focus is on building existing skills and learning new techniques, without class time being taken up covering the basics.

Please wear appropriate clothing/aprons for the workshop or studio. This includes stout covered footwear, i.e. no open-toed shoes or sandals. Long hair needs to be tied back.
Arrival day - first date of course
Residential students can arrive from 4pm, non-residential students to arrive by 6.45pm for registration
Student welcome, followed by dinner: 6.45pm (dinner included)
Teaching session: 8pm-9pm (attendance is essential)
Daily timetable
Course teaching: 9.15am-5pm
Morning session: 9.15am-12.45pm including coffee/tea break
Lunch break: 12.45pm-2pm (lunch included)
Afternoon session: 2pm-5pm including coffee/tea break
Teaching finishes: 5pm
Evening working: students may have access to workshops until 9pm, but only with permission from the tutor and provided any health and safety guidelines are observed.
Departure day - last date of course
Course teaching: 9.15am-3pm (lunch included)
Teaching finishes: 3pm
Residential students will need to check out of rooms by 10am.

Laila Smith is a studio jeweller and tutor. Her mathematically inspired geometric jewellery is sold across the UK. She trained at Manchester Metropolitan University and then undertook a 15 month Fellowship in The Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham. She has 17 years teaching experience, both in further, higher education and leisure classes.
