Emma Straw

West Dean 2019 Fine Art alumna Emma Straw currently works with the West Dean Tapestry Studio as a weaver. Having been asked to come back to work in the Tapestry Studio shortly after graduating she has provided her skills on many projects and commissions over the years.

Emma has woven The Empress of the Insects ahead of the celebration of the College's 50th anniversary, beginning the project with a weaving-in-process at the Threading Forms gallery at the London Art Fair. She has since work on commissions by Eva Rothschild and Michael Armitage, such as 'John Barry,  O Kelly, Sonny and Richard Moore (Everyday Heroes)' which is displayed at the National Portrait Gallery.

Having exhibited work with ARTAPESTRY6 and being selected as a finalist for The Kate Derum and Irene Davies Award for Emerging Tapestry Artists we look forward to insight into weaving she will provide on our courses.
