Jayne Sandys-Renton

Jayne is a full-time painter with a focus on landscapes, women and nature. Jayne has a BA and Masters with distinction from West Dean College. Exhibitions include ‘Forces of Nature’, an all women show for Glyndebourne and a collaboration with poet Stephanie Norgate. Jayne has taught freelance for many years.

Describe your approach to teaching
I approach each student as an artist in their own right with encouragement towards experimentation, exploration and expressive mark making and ultimately building confidence.  We also look at the work of
other artists.

What inspires your own work?
I am inspired by nature and women’s stories. A poem or a figure from a Rubens painting, colour from a magazine, browsing female painters, collaging ideas or light through wild undergrowth.
