Mike Baker

Mike Baker began his guitar career at the age of 9 and was soon after awarded a place at the prestigious Chethams School of Music, in Manchester.

During his seven years at the school, he was taught by renowned tutors, Craig Ogden and Gorden Crosskey, and participated in numerous master-classes given by visiting professional artists.

He continued his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music where he achieved his bachelor of music degree (Bmus Hons) as well as the college’s Professional Performance Diploma (PPRNCM), it’s highest award for performance. He has since given numerous solo recitals and concerto performances around the country.

It was during his time at the RNCM that Mike became a founder member of the award winning ensemble, the Aquarelle Guitar Quartet, the group with which he is most well known. With the quartet, he has recorded many critically acclaimed albums, toured extensively and given recitals at major concert halls and venues around the world.

Recognising the responsibility artists have to impart their knowledge and experience to future generations, Mike embraces every opportunity to be involved in education work. He currently holds down a teaching post at the renowned Manchester Grammar School and, along with the AGQ, regularly gives master-classes to guitarists and chamber musicians, ranging from enthusiastic youngsters to aspiring professionals.
