Sharon Ting graduated with an MA in Textiles from the Royal College of Art in 1992. Since then, she has built an international career as a designer-maker, artist, and educator, exhibiting nationally and internationally through galleries, trade shows, and exhibitions. Her distinctive scarf collections have been stocked by leading retailers including Liberty, Selfridges, Takashimaya New York, and Joyce Hong Kong. 

Sharon's practice is driven by the creative use of diverse materials and explores the application of textiles across art, architecture, interiors, craft, and fashion. Her work is held in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Crafts Council UK. She has received numerous awards, including the Pantone European Colour Award, the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers Award, the Liberty Print Prize, the New Generation Award, and recognition from the British Fashion Council. 

Over the past two decades, Sharon has completed a wide range of commissioned textile projects for public buildings and private residences, collaborating with architects, interior designers, and art consultants to create both decorative and functional works. In 2024, she was part of the team awarded the European Arts and International Design Award, in recognition for the art-based interior design, featuring her designs for several art interventions for the Sanctuary Space at the Louisa Martindale Building, Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton. 

Alongside her creative practice, Sharon has over 30 years of experience in higher education as an academic, Course Leader, Programme Director, External Examiner, and PhD supervisor. She is a Senior Fellow of Advanced Higher Education (2023). She has led and managed programmes across foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels in textiles for fashion and interiors, digital fashion, and fashion design. Her teaching appointments include the University for the Creative Arts, Sunway University (Malaysia), Central Saint Martins, London College of Communication, University of the Arts London, the Royal College of Art, Bath Spa University, Wimbledon School of Art, Winchester School of Art, Staffordshire University, and Loughborough University.  

Since 2015, Sharon has worked with New Ashgate Gallery, Farnham, on the Rising Stars Programme, mentoring and supporting emerging designers. Since 2012, she has served as Specialist Advisor in Textiles for the Crafts Study Centre, Farnham, contributing to its Acquisitions and Collections Panel and supporting the development of nationally significant contemporary and historical craft collections. She is also a member of FACE (Fashion and the Arts Creating Equity) and the British Malaysian Society.
