    When is a Disaster Not a Disaster?

    A disaster in a museum or historic house can range in scale from the theft or damage of an individual object to the wholesale destruction of a collection or property by fire or flood. As a Collections Care Assistant for English Heritage, part of my job is to do anything reasonably practicable to try and prevent such an event from occurring and to help mitigate its effects should the worst happen.

We will be celebrating women who have contributed to the cultural heritage of the College as well as those working now who continue to build on the legacy of conservation and the arts for which West Dean is internationally known.

    Cataloguing the Edward James Archive

    The cataloguing of Edward James's unique personal archive has recently begun. The focus of this project will be the Cultural Papers, a diverse and illuminating body of material with content ranging over many areas of the creative arts including visual art, literature, music and ballet.
