Explore the wonder of double cloth weaving - a reversible, two-layered technique with endless design possibilities. Using a plain weave structure, you will learn how to design, draft and weave a variation of double cloth block designs using 4-8 shafts. You will come away with a selection of your ownbwoven samples or fabric length to create a functional item.
Suitable for intermediate to advanced weavers who are new to double cloth or require an in depth refresher. An understanding of basic drafting and loom setup is required, though full bsupport will be given.
Each student will have use of a dedicated 8-shaft Ashford table loom or similar, and also have the option to bring their own. The course will be taught in a small group of 6 to allow for plenty of personalised tuition.
Course Outline:
• What is Double Cloth? Examples of the artist’s work and samples to work from.
• Warps: How choosing solid colour, stripes, or end-on-end can affect your design outcome.
• How to draft a double cloth design.
• Setting up the loom for two-layered cloth.
• Double plain weave interchange.
• Interchanging plain weave blocks.
• Experimenting and developing your design on the loom.
• Weaving technique using two shuttles.

On this course the tutor will supply all of the materials. The cost per person for the yarn amounts to £30 per person.

Please wear appropriate clothing/aprons for the workshop or studio, this includes out covered footwear (no sandals or open toes).
Student registration: 10.30am - 11am
Course teaching: 11am – 5.15pm
Morning session: 11am - 1pm
Lunch break: 1pm - 2pm (lunch is not included)
Afternoon session: 2pm - 5.15pm (15 minute break, 3.30pm–3.45pm)
Teaching finishes: 5.15pm
