This two-hour session is an introduction to working with cloth on the body, not on the cutting table. You will explore how fabric can be draped, folded, tucked and wrapped so that form appears with little or no waste.
Drawing on mannequin draping, simple fabric manipulation and the Japanese wrapping tradition of furoshiki, you will treat a square or length of cloth as a complete resource. Instead of cutting a conventional pattern, you will discover how folds, gathers and ties can become the garment a contemporary approach to zero-waste making.
This is a relaxed, hands-on session, you will leave with a small draped or wrapped sample and a first understanding of how cloth can be shaped without the offcuts of traditional pattern cutting.
You will make a small draped or furoshiki-inspired wrapped sample to take home
Sample fabrics, pins, ties and use of mannequins and equipment during the course.
No pattern cutting or sewing experience required. This is not a conventional dressmaking class. The emphasis is on draping, folding and zero-waste thinking rather than drafted patterns or finished garments.
This two-hour taster session will be held at our Craft Table in the Gardens Gatehouse. Please access via the Gardens entrance.
