Wycliffe Stutchbury

Wycliffe is an artist who works with fallen and forgotten timber. After 20 years in furniture making he branched out and now sells his work through galleries and fairs internationally. He teaches at Bartlett School of Architecture and has work in several collections and publications.

Describe your approach to teaching:

I actively encourage people to work materials as little as possible, to learn when to stop and allow the material to express itself, and not be seduced by technique.

What inspires your work?

I am always drawn to the way materials are affected by their immediate environment. British sculpture between the wars also sparks a particular nostalgia in me.
