As your exciting new chapter at West Dean College begins, we’re here to ensure that your transition is as smooth as possible. We’ve compiled a handy guide covering everything from what to bring to university, what to expect on your move-in day, and exploring the local area. 

Your first day at West Dean is just around the corner. Here’s what you can expect when you arrive: 

  • First Stop: Student Welcome Desk - Located in the Main College Building, you’ll meet the Student Services Team and get all the essential information you need. 
  • Collect Your Key - Register your vehicle (if it’s staying on campus), receive your room key, and grab a campus map. 
  • Find Your Room - Head to your Annexe and make yourself comfortable in your new home. 
  • Unpacking - Settle in by making your bed and personalising your space. Future you will be glad you did! 
  • Meet Your Neighbors - Prop your door open, meet fellow students, and explore the campus before your induction sessions begin. 

Induction Week: What to Expect

The first few days of your West Dean experience will be filled with introductions, essential information, and the chance to get to know your new surroundings. Here's a general idea of what the week will look like: 

  

Day 1 – Wednesday: 

  • Registration and important information sessions to help you get set up. 
  • Welcome events to meet staff and fellow students. 
  • Overviews of academic expectations and key dates. 
  • Opportunities to connect with student associations and services. 

Day 2 – Thursday: 

  • School-specific sessions to introduce you to your courses. 
  • Health and safety briefings, as well as an introduction to the campus resources. 
  • Time to familiarize yourself with the workshops and studios relevant to your studies. 

Day 3 – Friday: 

  • Programme inductions, where you'll get to know more about your course structure and what's to come. 
  • Informal events to meet other students and learn more about life at West Dean. 
  • Expect some fun social events too, giving you the chance to settle in and meet people before things get into full swing.
