This is an introductory workshop based on some of the artists personal approaches to creating mixed media works. You will explore ideas related to the design and the creation of Momigami textile papers, combine paper with cloth and look at different ways of texturing surfaces. A focus will be placed on hand stitching as an extension of mark-making and various means of layering and mixing materials. You will have created a small sample piece at the end of the session.
Drawing paper, Sashiko embroidery threads and a small piece of calico are supplied.
(N.B. Paper and gathered scraps should fit into one small bag!)

A good variety of art and craft materials are available to buy in the Gardens Gatehouse Shop.
Please wear appropriate clothing/aprons for the workshop or studio, this includes stout covered footwear (no sandals or open toes). There is a small lift to higher floors or stairs.

Afternoon session: 2pm - 5.15pm (15 minute break, 3.30pm–3.45pm)

Cas Homes studied in Fine Art, Maidstone College of Art (UCA) in the eighties before a further study in Japanese art, textiles and papermaking in Japan under a Japan Foundation Fellowship and a Winston Churchill Memorial Fellowship. She is a tutor at West Dean College alongside other adult education and community projects. Cas has also published work including; Textile Landscape, The Found Object in Textile Art, Stitch Stories, and Connected Cloth.
