Polly Pollock

Polly's basketry journey began with an interest in textiles, before she discovered City & Guilds Basketry Parts 1 and 2 at the London College of Furniture.   She began teaching on Part 1 while completing her final year, continuing to teach on these courses at LCF, then City Lit.  Since leaving City Lit, Polly has focused more on her own work, but continues freelance teaching.

Polly has taught freelance in many different environments: Pitt Rivers Museum, RCA, schools, colleges, in the community, and several established Summer Schools, most recently for the Textile Study Group.  Alongside teaching, she has always continued making.

Polly recently completed a residency at the Museum of European Culture (MEK) in Berlin. She is a member of the Textile Study Group, the Basketmakers’ Association, and Oxfordshire Basketmakers.

Polly works with papers and other soft materials, combining basketry and textile techniques. Current work explores more personal themes of protection, damage and repair, family and home, often incorporating small objects of significance, which are assembled and contained in domestic settings, eg drawers. She recently completed a new piece of work following her Berlin residency, and is now working towards several forthcoming UK exhibitions with the Textile Study Group.
