About this course

You will learn basic blacksmithing or build on existing skills in this one-day workshop. This taster course helps you gain confidence and prepare for longer courses or more ambitious forge projects.

Course Description

Learn basic blacksmithing or expand your existing skills in this one-day workshop taster, designed to give you confidence to progress onto longer courses or more ambitious work.

This workshop gives you an insight into the blacksmithing craft, from simple items to more considered forms, alongside an introduction to key processes and techniques used in the forge.

Depending on your experience level, you will focus on:

  • Fundamental forging techniques for shaping and forming metal
  • Making simple, functional items that demonstrate core skills
  • Developing accuracy, control and understanding of hot metal
  • Exploring joinery and function in metalwork

Introducing more advanced processes such as:

  • Traditional and modern joinery
  • Fire welding
  • Tool making

If you are a beginner, you will learn the essential basics needed to make strong, lasting objects while building confidence working in the forge.
If you already have some experience, you will use the day to extend your skills, refine technique and begin exploring more complex processes.
As a taster course, this workshop is ideal preparation for progressing onto longer blacksmithing courses, where you can build on your skills further or work towards larger, more developed projects.
