Beautiful photography which showcases your work in its best light is key for the growth of any design-led business - but styling “to camera” is an often overlooked, yet critical part, of any shoot’s success. Taught by a professional set stylist and freelance features writer with over 20 years experience, this one-day workshop will walk you through the tricks of the styling-trade, offering the inside scoop on what editors are looking to fill their pages with, and revealing the most effective ways to catch the eye of your target customer and client.
Whether you’re looking to team up with a photographer and get your latest project featured in your favourite magazine but aren’t sure where to start, or simply want to harness the power of good styling to improve your own photos for sales, marketing or social media, you’ll learn a plethora of practical skills and key insights to help you plan, prop and perfect your photographic styling.
Alongside the aesthetics, this workshop will also cover practical and need-to-know insights, from how to contact and communicate with editors and journalists, to understanding important aspects like copyright issues and shoot organising logistics.
Blending informative presentations with group discussion, hands-on activities and a visit to a leading interiors store, the day will focus on five key areas:
At the end, you’ll leave with a PDF filled with useful resources, along with a clear process to work through to perfect your pictures, impress those editors and get your work seen in all the right places
While there are lots of interiors magazines available for reference in the classroom, if there’s a particular publication you’d love to be featured in, you might like to bring a recent copy of it with you (as we will be analysing key magazines in one of the exercises).
You might also find it useful to have access to any existing photographs of either previously completed projects, or examples of other designer’s projects you’ve been particularly inspired by (whether magazine tear sheets or photos on your phone or a tablet device), for reference.
