Day 1
We will cover the basics of shibori stitching and prepare a series of accurately stitched pleated works that can be used to create additional patterns with further stitching.
We will also work on the Mokume woodgrain pattern, achieved through rows of closely spaced running stitch.
Day 2
Using the fabrics we’ve prepared, we will create additional patterns. Specifically, you will work on the following shibori sample pieces:
Nui variations – Learning to pull threads at different tensions to create pattern variations
Whip stitch – Over-stitching down both sides of pleated fabric
Day 3
Katano – Creating repeated patterns through pleated fabric
Each day you will be invited to dye your work using a variety of coloured Dylon dyes provided by the tutor.
You will also learn how to pull up and tie off your threads tightly to form a solid resist.
