The Interior Design Short Course focuses on the fundamentals of designing for residential interiors, covering subjects such as the design process, colour, using fabrics and trimmings, lighting, space planning to scale, soft furnishings, developing a concept, sourcing, presentation. The course culminates in producing a professional quality concept board and sample board for a room in your own home or for a “West Dean client”.

Who should attend? Anybody thinking about entering the industry via one of West Dean/KLC's renowned qualification courses and wanting to test the water. Any person who wants some fundamental knowledge and skills for their own personal design projects. Anyone with an interest in design looking to broaden their knowledge and have an enjoyable experience!

The College will supply the materials and equipment you will require for the course.

Magazines and samples, including fabric, trimmings, paint cards, wallpaper, trimmings and flooring, will also be available for discussion.

Additional information

Please wear appropriate clothing/aprons for the workshop or studio, this includes stout covered footwear (no sandals or open toes).

Course teaching: 10am–5.15pm
Students arrive: 9.30am-10.00am (coffee optional)
Morning teaching: 10am-1pm
Lunch break: 1pm-2pm (lunch is not included)
Afternoon teaching: 2pm–5.15pm (15 minute break)
Teaching finishes: 5.15pm

Short courses are open to anyone aged 18 and over. The course fee covers tuition and materials where stated. You will need to bring all other items listed under the ‘Materials to bring’ section.

Refreshments

Coffee and tea are included in the course fee, but you will need to bring lunch with you to eat in the refreshments room. There are also plenty of other local venues to purchase food.

There is a small lift to higher floors or stairs.
