On this one-day course, your tutor will show you how to turn flat sheet steel into a three-dimensional creature. The aim of the course is to teach beginners the basic three techniques needed in jewellery or metalwork: sawing, soldering and forming, whilst making something fun. Your dog will have button wheels, and text can be stamped on the dog for personalisation. The finishing touch is an ornate brass crown, perfect to test out your newfound piercing skills.
Your tutor will explain how the sculpture is made step-by-step and she will demonstrate each technique along the way.
By the end of the day, you will have a final steel sculpture of a dachshund to take home with you that will measure 15cm x 8cm and perhaps a second smaller dachshund if you are super speedy.
On this course the College will supply all of the materials you will need to make this set project, including: 2 pieces of steel sheet in the following sizes 0.8mm 15 x 12cm and 0.8mm 15 x 9cm, saw blades 2/0 2 bundles, a piece of tracing paper, carbon paper and a pencil per student plus some beeswax to share amongst the group. The tutor will supply some of the materials, including brass sheet, buttons and small rivets per student and some lacquer to share amongst the group.
Available from shop: A good variety of art and craft materials including tracing paper and pencils. Some metal is available for purchase.
Please wear appropriate clothing/aprons for the workshop or studio, this includes stout covered footwear (no sandals or open toes). Possible equipment restrictions in tutor absence.

Bryony trained at Glasgow School of Art and past commissions include objects for J K Rowling & HRH Princess Anne.
