About this course

Explore the possibilities of working with paper, lightweight wire, and stitch to create a body of 2D and 3D samples that explore surface and structure.

Course Description

During the course, Priscilla will guide you through a journey of discovery, experimentation, and exploration, revealing the endless possibilities of working with paper, wire, and stitch. This workshop is designed to be playful and inspiring, introducing you to a wide range of techniques and processes that you can adapt to suit your own artistic practice. Priscilla will bring many of her own examples and will talk you through how she develops her ideas. Repurposing materials is an important element of her approach, so she encourages you to bring materials that hold meaning for you. However, because this workshop focuses on exploration and pushing boundaries, please ensure that anything you bring is something you are comfortable cutting up and reworking.

Evening Session: On the first evening, you will experiment with cutting and tearing papers, exploring the possibilities of shapes and forms.

  • Day 1: Using your collection of papers from the evening session, you will work with inks, dyes, and pigments, learning how to add colour and create a variety of unique surfaces. Once your papers are prepared, you will develop them further using stitching, wax, and heat techniques to produce rich textures.
  • Day 2: After exploring these 2D techniques, you will move on to creating 3D forms—folding, pinning, joining, and stitching to let your creativity flow in new and exciting directions.
  • Day 3: You will focus on refining your ideas and, working directly from your body of samples, developing new pieces with a particular emphasis on scale.

Most equipment and materials will be provided, and a list of suggested items to bring will be sent to you once your place is confirmed. You are welcome to bring any additional resources you would like to use; Priscilla always encourages you to create pieces that reflect your own ideas.
