About this course

Going back to the basics, you will learn watercolour techniques including wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, dry brush, layering, glazing, flat and graduated washes and more, creating a sample book of all these techniques.

Course Description

On this course you will go back to basics, learning all the essential skills and techniques needed to paint in watercolours. These will include wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, dry brush, flat washes, graduated and variegated washes, layering and glazing, optical mixing and building a basic palette.

The day will include a series of watercolour technique exercises, with demonstrations and practice sessions. You will build a sample book of all techniques that you will take home and use as future reference. You will also build a basic watercolour palette, covering all the essential colours needed for a complete coverage of the colour spectrum.

The course is aimed at beginners wanting to build a solid base to paint in watercolours, or anyone with more experience needing a refresh on basic techniques.

Course Materials

Included

On this course the tutor will supply some of the materials, including paint charts.

On this course the College will supply most of the materials, including 4 x A3 sheets watercolour paper, paints, a brush, some string for binding the book of techniques and a cloth.

What students need to bring

  • A palette
  • Brushes, watercolour paper and watercolour paints if you have them.

Additional information

Please wear appropriate clothing/aprons for the workshop or studio, this includes stout covered footwear (no sandals or open toes).
