About this course

The course teaches a stencil technique for fabric printing that layers multiple stencils and uses a variety of brush methods to add depth, making it ideal for creating nature-inspired prints and patterns.

Course Description

There is so much nature inspiration around in the beautiful gardens of West Dean. Explore plants and trees, as well as natural textures in water, clouds, lichen, and more.

After becoming familiar with the stencil making and printing techniques, our group will head outside to spend a few hours sketching, capturing ideas on paper to inspire your prints.

Discover multiple ways to transform a sketch into a simple or layered design ready for stencil printing. Beautiful prints and patterns can be created regardless of previous sketching or printing experience.

The second part of the workshop focuses on printing designs on fabric to take home, perfect for turning into a cushion, small wall hanging, or other projects.

By the end of the course, you will leave with a skill that can be practiced at home. Supplies are simple, and brushes used during the course can be taken home, along with a list of additional materials needed to continue at your own pace.

Suitable for complete beginners, as well as artists and designers looking to learn a new skill.
